Still Further Adventures
First, to my great annoyance (I have five weeks before I need to turn in the next Benjamin January book) I have not yet got the situation with Facebook sorted out. I am still not able to sign in and post on my Facebook site, Barbara Hambly, Writer - I'm trying to get that sorted out.
BUT, I'm happy to say that as part of my new contract with Open Road Media, there will be a new (or 70% new) entry in the Asher/Ysidro vampire series after all. A couple of years ago I wrote "Gravemould and Ectoplasm," covering Lydia's adventures with Don Simon Ysidro in New York after Don Simon ceased being an active vampire and became... whatever he became, a ghost among the Undead. At the end of the final novel of the series, Prisoner of Midnight, he and Lydia are in New York (with 5-year-old Miranda, Lydia's daughter) while James Asher has to go back to his undercover assignment on the Eastern Front.
Last year I picked up that story in a novella called "Nightfall's Servants," about James Asher's work for the Master Vampire of Berlin during the war - and it occurred to me that if I put the two stories together - Gravemould and Ectoplasm + Nightfall's Servants - they would equal the length of a short novel. Many of the story-threads of G&M continue through Servants, so joining them seemed better than long explanations and expositions at the beginning of the latter tale.
I was surprised and delighted when, in fact, this combined story sold as a novel - and I will keep everyone posted as to publication date etc.
What it does mean is that within the next week or so I will be removing Gravemould and Ectoplasm from sale as an independent work. Thank you, all of you, for buying it on-line over the years - and my apologies that you'll have to re-buy it as part of Nightfall's Servants. I feel that the combination makes Servants a stronger book, and I'm not sure I could have sold Servants to a regular publisher without G&M as "Part One." Thank you for your understanding; it is deeply appreciated.
Meanwhile I will try to get this announcement onto the Facebook site - and try to post more regularly here and on that site (as soon as I CAN post on that site again...!)
